We are always grateful for volunteers who can spare the time to help with the many auxiliary
tasks associated with music ministry: sorting and filing music, data entry, maintaining choir
robes and other equipment, organizing and overseeing events, and assisting with concert
publicity.
The Adult Choir
The Adult Choir participates regularly at 10:00 am Sunday morning service during the choir
season (September to May). It leads congregational singing and presents offertory anthems
and other liturgical music. The Adult Choir also participates in occasional Evensong services,
special liturgies, and concerts. The choir's repertoire spans all musical periods, with an
emphasis on literature from the Anglican choral tradition. Participation in the Adult Choir is
open to anyone, regardless of experience or ability.
Rehearsal schedule: Thursdays, 7:15-9:15 pm, and Sundays before service starting at
8:45 am. Additional rehearsals for special events are scheduled as needed.
The Cherub Choir
This choir is for children from kindergarten through second grade. It focuses on developing
general music skills and group conciousness. One Sunday each month, the Cherub Choir
participates in the 10:00 am service, as well as leading the hymn at the 9:15 am Family
Service. The Cherub Choir offers children at St. Andrew's an early exposure to a very
important part of our Anglican heritage - the gift and legacy of great music.
Rehearsal schedule: Wednesdays, 4:30-5:15 pm, plus 9:15 am on those Sundays that the
choir is scheduled to sing.
The Junior Choir
The Junior Choir is for children between third and eighth grade, regardless of previous
musical experience. Each month, the Junior Choir participates in the 10:00 am service.
Choristers sing a wide variety of music of various styles, from original pieces composed
especially for young voices to great works of the classic Anglican choral tradition. Using a
developmental program adapted from a Royal School of Church Music model, choristers learn
skills through a graded incentive system in areas of musicianship, singing technique, basic
music theory, sight singing, and liturgy.
Rehearsal schedule: Wednesdays, 5:15 to 6:00 pm, plus 9:15 am on those Sundays that
the choir is scheduled to sing.
The St. Dunstan's Handbell Choir
Made up of ringers of all ages, the St. Dunstan's Handbell Choir is one of the "oldest"
handbell choirs in the area and an honored part of St. Andrew's history for over 35 years.
Playing on a four-octave set of Malmark English handbells, this ensemble presents music for
worship once a month at the 10:00 am service on Sundays. To ring with this group, the
ability to read music and some musical experience is helpful.
Rehearsal schedule: Wednesday nights at 6:30 pm in the Rainbow Room. Occasional
additional rehearsal times are scheduled in preparation for special events.
Do you love music but have only limited time to participate? Here are several other key
ways that you can help support the St. Andrew's music ministry. If you'd like to volunteer
your time, please contact Deborah Friauff, Director of Music, at 734-663-0518
There are many opportunities for skilled instrumental and vocal musicians to participate.
These include providing service music as a soloist or in an ensemble, accompanying one of
the choirs, or performing at parish events.
Instrumental Musicians
The St. Cecilia Music Fund provides monetary support for the St. Andrew’s music ministries
in many ways, funding some special concerts, providing auxiliary musicians for holidays,
buying music for the choirs, and various other expenses not included within the normal
budget. All donations to the fund are tax-deductible.

Other Volunteers
Whether you sing in a choir or primarily in the congregation, whether you love to play a
musical instrument or just enjoy listening to those who do, there are numerous ways to
participate in the St. Andrew's music ministry! St. Andrew's supports two children's choir,
an adult choir, and a handbell choir. Parishioners also participate as solo vocalists and
instrumentalists. Finally, our ministry relies on the financial and logistical support of
benefactors and volunteers.
