Baptism at St. Andrew's

At St. Andrew's, we celebrate baptisms for infants, children, and adults. Each baptism is a joyous event – we are adopted as God’s children, become members of Christ’s body, and join the Church of Jesus Christ.

The four dates above are feasts of the church calendar that are especially appropriate for baptism. We can also schedule baptisms during the 9:15 am Family Service in the Chapel or the 10:00 am service in the Sanctuary most any Sunday of the year except during the season of Lent (the six weeks leading up to Easter).

To be baptized, each candidate needs one or more godparents (if they are a child) or sponsors (if they are an adult). At least one of the godparents/sponsors must be baptized.

We ask that candidate (if age appropriate), parents, and godparents/sponsors meet with our clergy before the baptism. We will plan this around your schedule, usually on Saturday the week before. If everyone is local in Ann Arbor, we can meet in person at the church, otherwise we can meet on Zoom. You are never alone in your journey of faith and we will equip you or your child for an abundant life with God.

Please fill out the baptism registration form to begin the journey to baptism!

Family Service Baptism

Baptism in the Episcopal Church

"Each candidate for Holy Baptism is to be sponsored by one or more baptized persons. Sponsors of adults and older children present their candidates and thereby signify their endorsement of the candidates and their intention to support them by prayer and example in their Christian life. Sponsors of infants, commonly called godparents, present their candidates, make promises in their own names, and also take vows on behalf of their candidates.

It is fitting that parents be included among the godparents of their own children. Parents and godparents are to be instructed in the meaning of Baptism, in their duties to help the new Christians grow in the knowledge and love of God, and in their responsibilities as members of his Church."
